Odd problem - "a" key stuck...but not all the time.
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, my keyboard's a Logitech Media Elite and I'm using a Razer Copperhead mouse. This problem only happens on some programs and only when they're prioritised. This happens on most installation programmes but I've also had it on Spybot Search and Destroy and Dragon Age:Origins. It doesn't occur on any of my browsers. The problem appears to be completely random but happens pretty regularly, if I prioritise one of the aforementioned programmes, after about 5-10 seconds the mouse pointer will start moving left even if I haven't supplied any input. Additionally, if I've clicked inside a text box, it shows that the "a" key is just stuck on. I get out of the problem by clicking outside of the window (ie on the desktop). However, if I prioritise that window again, the problem will usually repeat itself. It's weird, because I never touch the key, but it just suddenly switches on...and it's starting to get to me. Any help? Thanks!

Looks like debris in the keyboard. You can remove a few key caps and see if you can dislodge whatever is affecting the key. Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! I'm not sure about that, seeing as things like Firefox and MS Word are completely unaffected. Plus the whole issue with the mouse pointer zipping off left as well leads me to believe it's something else. I'll try this anyway though... EDIT: tried, as I expected it didn't work. If it helps at all, it also happens on things such as Administrative Tools and Device Manager. Even if the keyboard isn't plugged in.

Keyboards are not expensive, try another one and see if that works. Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! I would try it, I just think that seeing as I still get the problem when the keyboard isn't plugged in that it's not the keyboard. I think it's more likely that it's to do with the programmes that I'm having trouble with, but I have no idea what the underlying cause is.

I have lots of keyboards around here, no shortage of them. When one does not work, its yanked for another. Then I take it apart and clean it up. This is a bit of a weird problem: I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, my keyboard's a Logitech Media Elite and I'm using a Razer Copperhead mouse. This problem only happens on some programs such as installers (almost all of them), Spybot S&D and I've also found it does it on Device Manager and Administrative Tools too. It doesn't occur on any of my browsers, MS Office or on my desktop. If I prioritise the windown of one of the aforementioned programmes, after about 5-10 seconds the mouse pointer will start moving left even if I haven't supplied any input (accompanied by a never ending string of "ding" sounds). Additionally, if I've clicked inside a text box, it shows that the "a" key is stuck on. I can stop the problem by clicking outside of the window (ie on the desktop). However, if I prioritise that window again, it'll start up again within a few seconds. It only happens with the "a" key and I don't have to touch it for it to happen. It still occurs when the keyboard is plugged in, so I don't think it's an input/driver error. I don't know what the programmes affected have in common though.

Also try the PC on a different power circuit ... I once had a really odd mouse/keyboard issue that was quite similar (maybe 15 years ago!) and it turned out to be a glitch in the power supply to my house. It used to show up only when our washing machine was turned on.

If you have flakey power, a UPS is a way to go, I use one here to provide power for the whole machine. It lasts almost 20 minutes before the battery croaks. Solved it, my gamepad drivers are a bit dodgy. Should've seen that one coming...

You could also have dodgy PS2 ports. They do die.If a product has faults the onus rests on the original manufacturer to solve problems arising because of that fault.

Solved it, my gamepad drivers are a bit dodgy. Should've seen that one coming... That is unusual as the game pad has no effect on the keyboard. At least it should not.
